Don't bother with physical attacks and hit the Robber Trapper with any of your ranged arts. Not only does it have a high defense, but the damage it does when defeated might wipe out your entire party.

On Hard and Nightmare: Use Shadow Spear, Soul Blur, and Petrify Breath to increase the chance of disabling or outright killing them instantly. If fighting more than one, begin the fight with a barrage of S-Craft Attacks, preferably at max strength.
