Wizardry 8: Umpani Base Camp Map
A Bastion of Strength in a Hostile World
At the base of Mt. Gigas, the Umpani Base Camp serves as the proud frontier outpost of the Umpani Imperial Federation. Its tall wooden walls and constant patrols show a culture focused on duty, power, and victory. The Umpani, who are large, bipedal, rhinoceros-like warriors, keep this camp as both a defensive stronghold and a launch point in their ongoing fight with their old insectoid enemies, the T'Rang, while also searching for the feared Dark Savant.
Inside the camp, visitors see the main parts of Umpani military life. Sgt. Balbrak runs the Recruitment Center, judging newcomers with both strictness and fairness. Sgt. Kunar is in charge of the Commissary, where outsiders can get Umpani Flags, but only official I.U.F. members can access advanced weapons and gear. The Barracks, with their tiny bunk beds, always make people wonder how such huge warriors manage to sleep there.
Even though the camp is focused on the military, there is a sense of camaraderie at Yamo's Roadhouse. Sgt. Bildublu runs a lively mess hall with plenty of drinks, enough to make even the most nervous person feel brave enough to face a T'Rang scout. The roadhouse is the social center of the base, where soldiers relax before going back to work.
Within the large cavern at the base of Mt. Gigas is their training course. Both new recruits and experienced soldiers practice their combat skills here and face challenges that make sure everyone is ready for whatever their missions might bring.
At the north end of the camp stands the impressive Mt. Gigas Citadel. This strong building holds the EWAXX, an advanced intelligence system that gives mission data and updates to I.U.F. operatives. Behind its armored doors are elevators that go up into the wide cave network inside Mt. Gigas, where deeper Umpani operations and the main command center are located.
If you want to join, restock supplies, or just see the disciplined strength of the Umpani forces, be careful and follow the chain of command. Otherwise, the soldiers might be just as ready to squash you as they are a T'Rang.
