Wizardry 8: Lower Marten's Bluff Map

Old Catacombs turned to alien base

Lower Marten's Bluff seems stuck between different times. The T'Rang base was carved from ancient catacombs that once held up the upper fort. Some of those old stone rooms remain, but most of the walls are now joined by alien technology. The T'Rang have covered the old structure with metal plates, divided hallways, and humming wires that give off an odd, insect-like beat. The place has become a maze where old stonework meets alien machines, and every corner shows another mix of cultures and ages.

As travellers go deeper, the environment changes from strange to disgusting. The floors are covered in a slick, slimy layer that makes walking difficult and fills the air with a sharp, unpleasant smell. Metal grates shake underfoot, their noise echoing through the hallways like the insects that still live here. Pools of green, foul-smelling water gather in sunken spots and across the old stone floor, bubbling with strange biological waste. The T'Rang don't seem to mind, but for outsiders, the place feels heavy—hot, rotten, and full of the feeling that something is always watching from the shadows or behind a vent.

Not every part of Lower Marten's Bluff is open to travellers. Some sections are locked behind strong bulkheads and guarded by the T'Rang, who make it clear that outsiders are not welcome. These off-limits areas seem to pulse with energy, hinting at experiments or secrets better left alone. Only those who are reckless or very determined would try to break through. Even then, the risks usually outweigh any knowledge gained, since the T'Rang rarely forgive and their revenge is both careful and quick.

Still, the alien presence has not completely wiped out the essence of the Fort's original inhabitants. In the hidden rooms, ghostly soldiers move through the shadows. These see-through figures continue their endless patrols and will protect their old home from anyone who enters. Their presence brings an extra sense of unease to Lower Marten's Bluff, reminding visitors that under the alien technology and strange remains, this place is full of history, old secrets, and sorrow.
