Darkness at the Reger Hotel

The chapter begins with Anna arriving at the Hotel once again. There's nowhere to go but inside. Take the candelabra from the table and start searching. At first, you can only enter Reception. Check the guest book first. Professor Clark is back, so go to Room 4 to check on him.

Collectables available: 1 Gold Fanam, 1 Gold Stater

No one is here too, and the room is a mess. Investigate the cabinet in the back for clues.

The only clue found is a photo. Investigating by candlelight is so old-school. Check the cellar for a way to restore electricity. Return outside, turn right, then venture up the path and enter the cellar door. A fusebox is inside the first room, but she finds the fuse is missing upon looking inside. Continue into the cellar to look for one. The investigation location is at the far end next to the shelves.

Return to the fuse box and insert the spare fuse. Someone also disconnected the wires. Trace each wire to its coloured source and insert it into the same coloured port. Once wired correctly, pull the switch.

Let there be light!

As Anna leaves the cellar, she hears a noise from Room 8. Check that area next. Oh, and a pack of wolves seem to be running around outside. It's probably safer in the building.

Collectables available: 1 Cash, 1 Drachm, 1 Duit, 1 Kahavanu, 10 Reis

Once inside, check room 8 to find someone tied up. Otto is lucky you came by when you did. Help him up and untie his mouth. Anna needs something to cut the ropes, so check the wardrobe for something.

Use the newly found knife to free Otto's bonds. Help Otto off the chair so Anna can bring him to the Fireplace Room to warm up. While the embers will help, a good roaring fire will warm the area better. Go to the Kitchen to collect more wood. You will find more in the pantry.

Return to the Fireplace Room and toss the wood logs onto the fire. While Otto is warming up, give him the photo Anna discovered earlier.

Coded Messages

The professor got coded messages before Otto's current nightmare began. Revisit the Reception Desk to get the first one. You'll need to check through Otto's stash again.

One coded message down. Otto discovered the second message written in the snow at the cabin; it is too dark to see now. Luckily, Otto copied it to a note and put it near the serving table in the Hall.

With the second message obtained, return to Otto. There isn't a way to decode these, so Anna wants to go to the cabin to find a way to solve the riddle.

The Amulet looks essential. Perhaps the attic has what is needed to crack the code. The ladder is on the floor near the wooden wheel. Flip it up to access the Attic area to find a third message paper in a bowl. With only hope to guide Anna, return to the Hotel.

Speak to Otto to get an update, then place all three coded messages on the table.

To solve the puzzle, choose a symbol, then click the letter on the left side. The symbols match the lines next to the notes.

Preparing for the night

The professor is in trouble, and those involved were willing to dispose of Otto just for being here. There is no answer from the police, and a storm rages outside. Anna and Otto will need to take shelter for the night, but it isn't safe. Go to Reception and find his rifle.

Searching for the Professor

Even though Anna got a good rest, Otto didn't; they still decide to press on to search for clues. Start the search at the cabin.

Finding a cane is no big deal, but one covered in blood looks like a well-used weapon. Pass it to Otto to confirm it was the professors. Could he have fought off his attackers and escaped? Anna wants to check over his room one more time. Return to Room 4.

Give the brochure to Otto. Could the professor be hiding in a nearby cave? Exit the Hotel and venture toward the backyard. Thick snow blocks the path to the mountains, and it appears wolves attacked someone. Could it be one of those who left Otto for dead? Investigate the area to learn more about them.

What is a sailor doing out here? Too bad the snow is in the way. Otto keeps a broom in the cellar. Walk past the shovel by the door and venture to the end. The shelving area is the Broom's resting place, but you must find it first.

Return to Otto in the Backyard and use the broom to sweep the snow off the blood. It leads to the mountains. Hop the covered gate to encounter a pack of vicious wolves who sees the professor as their next meal.

Professor Clark's Story

Bring the blanket back to the Fireplace Room and cover Professor Clark. Also, give the amulet to him, so he has a bit more luck on his side. After hearing his story, take the key from Otto and head to Room 7 to look for some protection. Use the key Otto provided to unlock the door.

Anna is ready to venture into the cold without any Ammo; she did mention she wasn't a good shot anyway. Return to the Backyard to investigate the wolf victim.

The cigarette box looks like a puzzle box. Bring it inside and to Otto and the Professor at the fireplace. To unlock it, spin the rings until they match up with the next one. Unfortunately, the inside and outside rings are connected. Start from the inside circle, middle, then get the outside ring in the right spot. Once the outside rings are ready, spin the inside ring to complete it.

It has the same code Anna used later, with a dangerous set of instructions attached. Please give it to Charles. Since they are all in danger, they will need a plan.

Laying a Trap

The first step is to find items to make a fake professor. Hop in the car and drive to town. Don't spend too much time in the cold; the wolves are still looking for a meal.

Enter the antique shop to find the Police Officer playing the piano. Tap him on the shoulder and inform the man about the current events.

Well, Anna found a mannequin, but a few parts are missing. Look around the shop to find one of them.

She found the head but no hands. Someone was using them at the bar for entertainment the previous evening. Go across the street and investigate there next.

With the pair of hands discovered, head back to the hotel with the Officer. Enter the hall, then place the head and hands onto the Mannequin. Head into the Fireplace room and grab the coat on the chair on the left side, then dress the dummy in it. They need a hat, so return to Room 4 and search for one.

Return to the Hall and place the hat upon the dummy's head, then wait for the trap to be sprung.

Unfortunately, it doesn't go all to plan. Everything ends in a firefight, and an ally is wounded. Once things are clear, give the insignia to the Officer. Don't worry; the assailant doesn't get far.

This marks the end of Part 1 of Murder in the Alps and Anna's adventures around the Reger Hotel.
