Arriving at the Hotel Reger
Please note: The walkthrough below was for the original release, and some areas have been removed or altered slightly since then. A new version is currently being made to match the current version.
Deadly Snowstorm begins as Anna arrives at the Hotel Reger. Otto, the owner, will greet you and welcome you inside. He will wait for you to venture into the warmth and join him at the Dining Hall, located to the right of the Foyer.
Many areas have unique collectables which reward you with more energy. These are optional but are only available for a short time. I will include hints when each is available, with links to the collectables page to provide more information to guide you to them. They are 100% optional but are worth getting.
Collectables available: 2 Mark, German Reich Stamp, Italian Express Stamp, Otto Reger (Card), Swiss Stamp
Once you are ready, join Otto in the Fireplace Room next to the Dining Hall. After some tea, Anna and Otto will briefly introduce themselves. Otto will request Anna's assistance at the Reception Desk to investigate some odd issues at the Hotel.
Collectables available: Red Mecury Austrian Stamp
Once you arrive at the reception desk, activate the shimmering area to begin the first investigation.
Upon completing the scene, give the key you found to Otto. (Drag it from your inventory to his hand.) He will then ask that you collect a hat and umbrella for another guest. The hat is next to the mailbox just outside the building. The umbrella is near the gate to leave the property on the left side of the road. Return to the reception and give these items to Otto.
Otto will thank you and head to bed. Collect any items you may have missed, then head back to the Fireplace Room. You will need to play a quick game of solitaire. You can skip it if you don't want to, but it will cost more energy. It is in easy mode (draw one card), so it is easier to win.
After the game, venture to the Dining Hall to begin the 2nd investigation to find the photo album.
The photo album is empty. How suspicious! With everything done for the night, head up the rooms and enter Room 5 to begin the next day.
Breakfast With the Guests
Our journalist awakes at 9am and ready for breakfast. She won't leave her room without her hat, though... Where could it have gone?
Collectables available: 5 Mark Coin, Anna Myers Card
This investigation requires you to open the 4 drawers before you can find the items, and some are hidden under other items. You're first goal should be unlocking the drawers.
Put the hat on Anna's reflection using the mirror, and you're ready for breakfast.
Collectables available: 1/2 Batzen Location, 50 Cent Coin
Head into the dining hall on the main floor to meet all the guests of the Inn. One of them is missing, Adam Kinsky. Anna has offered to check on the guest while the others enjoy their meal. Head back to the second floor and knock on the door to Room 10 at the top of the stairs. There is no answer, so head back to the first floor. Otto will recommend getting the key, so join him at reception again. All the keys are missing, so you will need to search the area for clues.
After only finding a pack of Cigarettes, Otto, Walter and Anna decide to break into the door. Unfortunately, the door is more solid than it looks, so they need a sharp object to get in. Head to the kitchen to look for a knife. Examine the door to start the next investigation.
With the Knife in your possession, return to the second floor and give Walter the Knife from your inventory. They will enter room 10, so follow them inside. Upon discovering the guest's condition, Otto will ask you to call for Police from the phone at the Reception Desk.
Collectables available: Adam Kinksy's Card, German Reich Stamp
Once you reach the reception desk, click on the old phone box on the shelf. Otto will drop by and tell you it needs to be rewired. It's a simple puzzle where you need to connect all the wires to the ports of the same colour, but they cannot cross each other. You can get the solution here, if needed.
After the failed call, you will be asked to go to town to get help. Go outside and to the front gate. You will need to lift the latch, then open the cross bar holding it closed. Once on the road you will find an abandoned car. Open the door to get a photo. Return to the entrance of the Inn to reveal your discovery to Otto, then return to Reception.
Place the photo album on the desk near Otto, then place the photograph on the book. Your next task is to re-arrange a torn photo. See the solution here if needed.
Where is Dr. Hartmann?
Upon completing the puzzle, the day will progress to later in the day. A few people are missing, and the guests are most concerned about Dr. Hartman. His room is #2 on the first floor. Once inside, everyone notices that he isn't there. The others will look for him, but they want you to stay behind to check his belongings for clues.
Collectables available: French Colony Stamp, Max Hartmann's Card
Otto will call you upstairs to Ulla's room as soon as you finish. Go upstairs, take a right and enter the left room to find another dead body. You will need to open the closet door on the right side to investigate further. Just spin the handle and lift the latch to open it.
Collectables available: 1/2 Rigsmont Skilling, Ulla Lind's Card
Very suspicious. Time to resume your search for Dr. Hartmann. Return to Room 2 to find that he has returned. After your conversation, return to the Fireplace Room to discuss the day's events.
Investigating Ulla
You will need a magnifying glass to inspect Ulla's death further. Thankfully Otto remembers he keeps one in the kitchen. While you're in the kitchen, you can also grab a box of Baking Soda from the cabinet under the sink on the left side. It will come in handy later. Open the pantry door again to search for the magnifying glass.
With the new item in your possession, return to Room 7. Inspect her neck with the magnifying glass to find a peculiar clue. Otto will recommend checking out the liquid on the floor with Baking Soda. If you never got it from your last trip to the Kitchen, open the cabinet under the sink to get it. Pour the baking soda on the liquid to confirm their suspicions.
With the crude detective work complete, leave Ulla and enter Room 10 again. Check out Adam Kinskey's neck as well to find a similar clue. Yup, things are lining up. Maybe his luggage has more hints of what is going on. A puzzle lock is needed to open it, so you will have to figure it out. See the solution here if needed. Once unlocked, rifle through his stuff.
After finding an odd coin, the three would-be investigators hang up their pipes for the day.
A Potion of Immortality
Head down to the Dining Hall and speak with the survivors to learn about a mystical elixer. They will need alcohol, so search the nearby cart for some.
Once back at the table, pour the alcohol you just got on the tablet in front of the professor. Next, use the lighter, followed by the coin that we have in our inventory. You will need to put the pieces in the correct order, which seems dangerous with all the flames. I guess she is fireproof... See the solution here if needed.
After the meal has concluded, return to Anna's room to look for her scarf. Her burgundy scarf is on the foot of her bed. Under it is a scrambled note in the form of a crossword puzzle. See the solution here if needed.
The letter could be a call for help, or a trap. Search the dresser again for something helpful in dark areas.
With flashlight in hand, time to leave the inn to investigate outside. Go toward the gate, then left down the newly shovelled trail and into the backyard. The situation outside the cellar doesn't bode well for another guest. Enter the door here to the Cellar Hallway.
Meeting in the Cellar
Everything is dark, but a faint hook is swinging in the dark. Hang our flashlight there to find a light switch. Flip the switch, although it might have been less stressful to keep it off. The man with the gun tells you to enter the next room alone. Nothing terrible will happen to our hero, right?
Collectables available: 20 Lev Coin, German Reichspost Stamp
Flip the latch on the door to enter the cellar. The light switch to see more is barely visible on the left side. A wire in the switch is disconnected, so move the unconnected wire to the empty screw. Close the cover and flip it down to light this area. You can't do much here other than find a few collectables, so continue through the door on the left.
Collectables available: 3 Centesimi, 20 Mark Coin
Hmm, this looks like contraband. Hand our friend the pack of cigarettes we discovered earlier to compare with the cases here. With the evidence in his hand, he darts back to the hotel. Not suspicious at all. Continue into the next room.
Collectables available: Hanz Lenz's Card
She found a clock face. Imagine that, on a shelf full of junk. It must have some meaning. Leave the cellar and return to the Inn. Everyone alive is waiting for you in Dining Hall. After a quick update, go to Reception to get the guest list.
Bring the newly acquired guestlist back to the Hall and give it to Walter. After a quick check for what has gone missing amongst the hotel guests, Otto decides to first check for shell casings in the cellar. Return outside and to the Backyard. Examine the area next to the door for clues.
Drop those three bullet casings in Otto's hands to confirm the calibre. After a brief conversation, the day will advance to more talk about the mystical potion until a scream breaks the conversation.
A Scream for Help
Head to Room 4 to find out why she is screaming for help. Was Claudia attacked by someone unknown? Are there any hints in her room?
Collectables available: 1 Krone, Claudia Perret's Card
Drop the newly found Medicine Chest on the ottoman, then open it. It is a mess inside, so put everything in the right spot, then drop the syringe from the inventory into its resting place. See the solution here if needed.
Otto requests Anna's attention back at Reception, so return downstairs. He has noticed the weight of the bullets doesn't add up to their calibre. Use the scale to determine the correct weight. Both the top and bottom sliding weights need to be moved.
After a surprise from one of the guests, Anna wants to revisit the spooky cellar. Don't go inside the door; the investigation area is next to the wheelchair immediately outside the cellar door.
After finding the mirror, head to the far end of the cellar to continue searching for clues.
Finding the gloves will spring the trap, leaving Anna alone in a dark cellar. The only way out is to fix the door's locking mechanism. See the solution here if needed. Who locked her inside? Zig-zag back outside to find new footprints. Oh well, a new clue. It's time for bed!
What happened to Mr Petersen?
Leave her dirty room and head back to the Hall for breakfast. It seems the cellar isn't the only place with electrical issues. One guest never arrived, so I guess that means only one thing. Venture up to Room 6.
Collectables available: Christian Petersen's Card, German Zeppelin Stamp
The sharp-dressed man is missing, and no clues to his whereabouts. Everyone else will search for him, but Anna will recheck rooms for clues. Begin with Room 10.
The gun has been found, but why is it here now? It still doesn't solve the mystery, though. Go back to Room 7. Something has changed. Compare the photos to find out what is different. See the solution here if needed.
Place the clock face from Anna's inventory back into the clock. Satisfied she has deepened the mystery further, she decides that it's time to join the others outside. You will find Hanz in the Backyard and screams coming from the mountains. Enter the small gate on the right.
Yet another body. Someone seems to be in a rush to claim suicide. There's nothing to see here but snow and crows. Return to the Backyard and check the area next to the door again.
A broken record isn't unique, but one that involves a fellow guest certainly is. Return to the Hall to brief the guests of the news.
Who lied about the night before?
No one is to be left alone, so Claudia joins Anna in the cellar to investigate further. Otto joins the ladies as they venture under the Inn once again. Journey to the far end and check the pile of junk.
Yet another suspicious item. The small group decides to search Walter's room next. Return to the Inn and enter Room 9. He's not here, and no real clues other than he likes to read. Maybe Professor Clark's room as clues. Travel to the main floor and enter Room 1.
Collectables available: 20 Pfennige Coin, Walter McCain's Card
Nothing here but more questions. Maybe Giovanni's room as answers? Return upstairs and enter Room 8.
Collectables available: Charles Clark's Card
Even though everyone was supposed to stay together, someone went missing. It's time to check through all of his stuff for clues.
Collectables available: Giovanni Rossi's Card, United States Stamp
Record Pieces that might match the broken record found earlier. Place the broken record and the pieces on the record player. Move the pieces around to put them back together. See the solution here if needed.
Satisfied another puzzle has been solved, Otto and Anna decide to revisit the cellar. Our missing man is here, but maybe another look will either clear the man or incriminate him further.
A new bowtie only increases suspicions. It's time to return to the Hall and give Giovanni his bowtie. The opera singer claims he is innocent. Check Room 8 for more clues.
Does this gun case match the gun Anna found earlier? Give the case to Otto, then put the gun inside. It's a match! Maybe Dr. Hartmann's room has more proof? Visit Room 2 and check his cabinet.
How does a shoe fit in with the murders? Revisit the Backyard to compare the shoeprint. Two other guests are here as well. Drop the shoe on the path toward the mountain, then compare the marks to match the shoe. See the solution here if needed.
Well, the shoe fits. Time to talk to the "prisoner" in the Hall before everyone gets some sleep.
The True Killer
More screams to start the morning; this can't be a good sign. Return to the Hall to find a still tied up man and an additional dead one. With the list of suspects getting much smaller, Anna decides to venture beyond the explored areas to check the cabin.
An axe will be needed to enter the cabin, and Otto keeps one in the kitchen. Upon reaching the kitchen, Otto will share dangerous news with Anna. The key at Reception is also needed to enter the back room.
The key is on the desk, but something has been poured over the key. Use the gloves Anna found earlier to grab the keys. Return to the Kitchen and use the keys on the door to open it.
With the axe in hand, leave the Inn and go to the left. Pull the pin and use the lever to open the gate. The cabin is ahead. Of course, snow falls from the cabin roof just as you approach. Return to the backyard to get the shovel near the mountain gate, then back to the cabin to dig a path to the door. Finally, use the axe on the door to get inside.
The ladder needs to be fixed before we can test Anna's theory with the newly discovered item. Drag the wood near the window to the ladder first, then the nails from the table, and use the hammer last. With the ladder complete, go up to the attic.
Collectables available: Remember Always Nothing German Stamp
In the attic, select the telescope stand. Place the telescope on the tripod, then use the rag next to the window to remove the dust from it. Select the telescope now and use the red adjuster to focus the image until it is clear. Next, place the mirror on the book next to the telescope. Just open and close the mirror a few times, then return to the Inn. See Otto in the Hall to tease him with the findings. She wants to check Claudia and Dr. Hartmann's rooms again first.
First, return to Room 4 and check through Claudia's things again.
After collecting the postcard, return to Room 2 to examine Dr. Hartmann's room.
With the incriminating letter in hand, return to the Hall to reveal the killer's identity. While exposing Giovanni's past, the fire goes out in the next room. Go to the Fireplace room to toss a log into the fire, then return to the Hall. If you can't find the wood, it is stacked just to the right of the fireplace. Upon exposing Otto's operation, give the letter to Father Lenz. After another brief conversation, hand the postcard to Claudia. Midway through the big reveal, the telephone will ring. Go to the Reception and answer it. All call for Claudia now of all times? Very convenient!
Go back to the Hall so Anna can continue telling her findings and return Professor Clark's passport. After exposing the killer and buying time for the police to arrive to arrest the murderer. Anna will spend the night, then return outside to leave. Everything is locked up now, so guide Anna out of the building to end this chapter.
If you have any collectables you haven't claimed, do so now as they are not available once you continue.
