Other than a few mentions, Garth has been largely absent from Supernatural for a very long time, and now we know why.
Sadly, he still isn't the brightest hunter. Yeah, I know that the insane wolves fooled other light-hearted Lycanthropes, but it didn't take long before Sam and Dean stirred things up enough to expose their nefarious plans. They may have been a bit more comfortable with Garth in his current condition, but I'm sure if he was a bit more attentive he would have figured out what was really going on.
Regardless, I still think he is one of the luckiest of the old gang. He has a wife, a new family, a loving environment, and a mainly stable life – exactly what Sam has been trying to get for a long time. Well, the werewolf thing isn't exactly what they would hope for, but he's adapted very, very well. I just hope that his next appearance isn't going to wreck everything, or drastically shorten his lifespan. Who knows, maybe he will have a litter of pups by then, too.
While Garth's life is certainly looking up, the brotherly love is almost completely gone. I can't say I didn't see this coming, though. Sam has almost always been the one who drew the short straw in the family, and with the latest string of lies it would have been unrealistic for things to be the same between them. Even though they are still working together, I can't see their relationship ever returning to how it was. It is also more likely that Sam is going to rebel against Dean's choices far more often, too. Who knows, maybe they will make more allies this way.
I am surprised that Cass was out of the picture through all this. Did he not care about Garth, or was he on radio silence while following his old friends?
With so much Dean only time, it will be nice to see the brothers back in action again, but I still think it would have been better to spice things up a bit more. We are still only half-way through the season, though, so who knows what kind of new wedge is going to pop up.
