Of course last week's shocking introduction to Rainer had huge repercussions during this week's episode, Waves, but the star story wasn't about a found Wanderer, but fin-flappin' Mermaids!
That's right, Mermaids! And just like a certain little mermaid from a childhood cartoon, they wanted to be where the people are, they wanna to see, wanna see 'em dancin', walkin' around on those... Whaddya call 'em? Oh, feet. Of course, not everyone was happy with those who loved land. This meant the attacker was just trying to force them to return under the sea, because darlin' it's better down where it's wetter, take it from me. I'm a bit disappointed that there wasn't some Fae squid involved, but it was a fantastic treat as it was.
It also helped that the Mermaid story was very heavy on the Kenzi. We haven't had an episode loaded with her pop-culture references and silly antics for a long time, so having so much of her in a single episode was perfect. Too bad she didn't get to go Sigourney Weaver-ing when she was having fun in the vents, though. Now that would have been epic!
It also feels like the writers are getting us ready for a Dyson and Lauren relationship. I guess that is what happens when Bo leaves two lovers hanging for so long. Who knows, maybe in a few years we could have little wolves running around in lab coats.
Although, something tells me Bo will be back with her friends after her big boo-boo. Seriously, could Trick's timing be any worse? While it felt good to see those creeps get defeated by the Wanderbus, the consequences will likely be worse than anything they've fought before. It's still unclear if Rainer is controlling her in some way or if it is just love that is making her blind to the truth. Just how long did she spend with him on that train anyway, and how did they know what was going on in the outside world?
Waves might have been the best episode of this season, and with so many amazing episodes that's saying something! I really hope that we get to see more Mermaids next season, though. Wait, I just noticed that Showcase hasn't announced Lost Girl's renewal yet! Come on, Showcase, don't leave us flapping like a mermaid out of water!
