Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall Review 2012-01-16 By Tyler Olson |

Wow! The season finale already, how I wish these could go on all year round. Since the introduction of Moriarty last season, the series has been building up rapidly toward a showdown between the master criminal and the master detective. It is a shame it is here already, but it was really worth it. Behold, “The Final Problem”. Oh no! Sherlock is going to die... wait, didn't they already approve a third season? Well, that took a bit of the excitement out of the episode. Since I knew he was coming back, it wasn't going to be his final death, although, there were times in this episode that made me wonder if season 3 was a lie.
It doesn't take long for them to arrest Moriarty, especially since he was just sitting the on the throne, wearing all of the jewels. This lead to the Trial of the Century, which was really short lived, and had a really surprising conclusion. Sherlock sitting in contempt was great, but it was how Moriarty got a not guilty verdict after not even defending himself was the real shocker. That really showed how pathetic the court systems are whihc so much of he world relies on. We all know of cases similar where the courts failed us, but not as grand as this.
Sherlock and John's arrest, really isn't going to do much for the impression everyone has on the law enforcement. I have a hard time believing that anyone in that position can be as naive as the fools who turned their back on Holmes. Sure his rude behaviour ruffled a few feathers, but willing to help crush a man's reputation because he wasn't the kindest person, seems a bit insane.
Sherlock's death scene was horrifying to watch. After seeing his face after jumping, I really was unsure if he was in fact dead. Sure, just like the novels, he faked his death, but how is the question I hope they answer when the series returns. I am sure it has something to do with Molly, although he looked very dead when they pealed him off the sidewalk. I am glad they showed him alive at the end, just to solidify the fact that he will indeed return. I can already picture the punch John will give him when he learns the truth. This was a fantastic way to conclude this season, and by far the best of the series so far. I really hope that the break until Season 3 isn't too long though. I, like many other fans, can't wait to see the Sherlock's return. Comments

So, Moriarty hatches his plan, and breaks into the Bank of England, a prison and gets his hands onto the crown jewels, all at once, and all from his smart phone. Him flipping through his customized apps on his phone, and using them to take over everything, had me thinking of all those smart phone commercials. The thought that someone could hijack so many systems, just from the palm of their hand, is a bit unsettling. If anyone creates something as ingenious as this in real life, the world would be in serious trouble.
The rest of the episode was all about Moriarty destroying Sherlock's good name. I was at first really impressed at the work that Moriarty did to get everything in place, but after finding out that Mycroft blabbed Sherlock's life story to him, it made everything feel much less special. I really don't know how Mycroft was able to be so calm after realizing that he caused the entire mess that was ruining his brother's life.
Speaking of insane, since when was Moriarty the original Joker? The conversation that Holmes and Moriarty had on the rooftop toward the end, oddly seemed like the conversation between Batman and the Joker in The Dark Knight. I am sure that the way he was being portrayed as insane, and his death, really helped make the bond between these two villains obvious for me.
