The Secret Circle: Witness Review 2012-01-22 By Tyler Olson |

This episode changes so much. Cassie has a new tool to help her against the witch hunters, the truth about their parents are revealed, and questions are raised about Adam's dad, Ethan. Oddly, Melissa is once again missing in the episode, and Faye's quest to get her powers back got sidetracked. The episode continued with Jake's big return, who tells Cassie that the witch hunters killed her father, and now they are after her. I expected something like this when they first introduced the hunters, but didn't expect it to play out as it did. In some type of witch mind meld, Cassie accesses Jake's blocked memories, since he was there as a kid that night, to find out what really happened. The nerd in me still thinks that they should have used the line “My mind to your mind” in the spell. Once inside Jake's memory, they explored the ship that the fire happened at, but Jake suddenly got a headache and leaves Cassie trapped in his mind by herself. This was likely a good thing since he was holding her back so much that she probably wouldn't have learnt what she did otherwise.
Who was the woman that saw Cassie in the past and does she know what is actually happening? It seemed odd that no one else could interact with her and that she wasn't affected by her surroundings until she showed up. Diana and Adam's relationship seems to be pulling apart even more this episode. They seem to always be on the opposite ends of any decision lately. It is good to know that Diana is now noticing how the circle is falling apart, although I think that Adam's harsh feelings aren't going to help keep it together. He appeared to be a soft-hearted person at the beginning, but now he seems completely selfish and has a hard time at trusting anyone. I am surprised how quickly his character changed.
Faye spent most of the episode chatting with Callum, an old friend of Lee's, who interrupted her plans of getting her powers back. He was after a drug called The Devil's Spirit, which is supposed to make you more powerful. So, typically power-hungry Faye is interested in it, even though Lee tries to warn her about it's destructive past with his ex-girlfriend. She ends up getting some from Callum at the end anyway, which will likely show itself in the next episode. Will it give her power, or just make her high to think she has some? Overall, it was a really entertaining episode. Lots of twists and story, but still mixed with just the right amount of action to prevent viewers to get overloaded. Comments

Apparently Adam's dad lied when he said he wasn't there, and probably knows a lot more than what he has lead everyone to believe. She also found out how brutal the hunters can be and that there is a way to fight them. The biggest surprise came when she found out that her father walked away from the fire that night, which was later proved when Cassie and Jake tore apart his grave and found animal bones in his coffin. I guess they must have had a closed casket funeral. Why do I have a feeling that John Blackwell will be showing up soon?
The parents are back again this episode too, and they are still fighting over Dawn wanting to kill Charles' mom. So, Dawn does exactly what any self-respecting adult would do, make a new friend and lie to get him to her help out. So, Ethan gets involved, lays a trap for Charles, and steals his crystal. Dawn still doesn't get the crystal in the end, and as we now know that he isn't as naive as he appeared, he probably has a plan of his own for it. Charles and Dawn are probably going to regret everything once the truth about Ethan comes out.
