The Secret Circle: Darkness Review 2012-01-08 By Tyler Olson |

After a nightmare of her killing Jake, and Adam finds out about her secret, Cassie goes on a mission to find out how to deal with her dark magic. I can understand why she would try to keep it a secret from everyone else, but it really limited her sources, although they did all treat her like a freak when they did finally find out. I actually expected Faye to understand and think it was cool, but yet she acted like everyone else. Possible flaw in her character?
Meanwhile, Diana's grandmother showed up, stating she was there for Diana, but it was soon obvious she had other plans. It seems like being an elder has a lot of advantages. How else was she able to just walk right into the principles office? Most schools I have been to, even in small hick towns, have a bit more security than that.
The main part of Diana's grandmother's visit wasn't for the parents though, it was with Cassie's dark magic. The incident in the woods really spoke volumes of the type of person she was. It seems like her son has learnt a lot from her, and with their conversation after, still has a few lessons left. I am curious what her plan really is. Cassie's amazing escape and her opening up to Diana afterwards, really gave us a taste of what is to come. Not only is she getting stronger, but she is beginning to like it. So much for taking after her mothers side. I wonder how long it will take before she goes Dark Willow on the town (see Buffy the Vampire Slayer if you don't know the reference).
Speaking of Jake, apparently he is back already. I wonder how the group will react to that news. A lot actually happened this episode, with almost no filler, which is a refreshing change. Every path seemed to be there just to advance the story, which they all did in major ways. I can't wait to see how it continues. Comments

I was really surprised when Diana actually invited Cassie to stay with her after the incident in the club house. After what happened earlier, and the way everyone treated her, she seemed to be a bit too caring, but didn't offer any apology or showing understanding of the problem. Adam's apology, on the other hand, really sounded heartfelt and genuine.
So, the adults suddenly start acting like they are in love to cover their fake dating story. Of course she doesn't believe it, and it doesn't take long before Dawn wants to kill her. Charles thankfully talked her down, but it did lead to a few amusing scenes of him being paranoid.
Speaking of going Dark Willow, Faye seems to be also going down that path really quickly, too. Still fed up with not having individual powers, she drags Melissa along to find someone who has practices Voodoo to help her get her powers back. The fact she is trying to use a spell that expands her powers, will likely not go very well once she actually gets it done. If I am correct in assuming that she is Cassie's half sister, then that could go very badly. I don't think they actually said his name, but Faye's new friend might actually be as important as Jake is to the story.
