Doctor Who: Day of the Moon Review May 01, 2011

This episode takes place 3 months after last episode's cliff-hanger. The beginning of this episode was full of so many twists, turns and 'What the...' moments, it was sure to confuse everyone until it was later explained. Other than the beginning, the rest of the episode was amazing. They should of stuck with the beard though, it added a lot of character. The idea The Doctor had in the Tardis to allow his companions to remember the enemy was great, and the test with Canton was very well done. I found the way the group was split up was a bit odd, I am surprised Rory agreed to allow Amy to go on without him. The orphanage was incredibly creepy. Everything from the state of the building, writing on the walls saying 'Get Out', and the confused creepy man running the place added the perfect atmosphere. When they separated there, I knew something bad was going to happen, but I was surprised on how long they dragged out the frightening scenes for. The scene with Amy in the large bedroom was incredible, and I am sure it caused lots of kids to have nightmares. I loved the way that the show skipped ahead for many of the encounters and just showed us the changes; it added much more of a panic feel to the already scary scene. The Doctor's rescue was funny; although it didn't add much to the story, it did add a bit of light in what was otherwise a very dark episode. I found that the acting done by the pair questioning the doctor was poor and didn't seem believable, but Rory's acting in this scene was great. River is quickly becoming my favorite of all the companions, the ending of this episode shows lots of good reasons why. I don't think I have seen any other Doctor Who episode that had this much action in it. If this is a teaser of what is to come, I am looking forward to more episodes with River in it. The scene where she was dropped off was very sad and it was obvious that she knew what was to come. It will be interesting on how they will keep the character evolving with this whole meeting in reverse thing. The child leaves so many unanswered questions and puts a whole new experience to the series. It will be interesting to find out who she really is as the series continues. I am surprised that the next episode isn't continuing on with this story, but I am sure they will fit it into it somehow.
