Doctor Who - 'The Wedding of River Song' Review 2011-10-02 By Tyler Olson |

Time has been frozen and all the eras are merging together, only The Doctor knows what must be done to set it right. Death. It is one of the trickiest things to touch on for any series, especially for the main character, unless it involves Charlie Sheen. We had it hanging in front of our noses this entire season. The Doctor is going to die. Not just regenerate, die. To make things worse, it was a fixed point in time, which meant it had to happen. We never knew what would actually happen if those fixed points got changed, and this episode was our answer. Seeing all these eras that have been visited in the past few seasons all merged together was a real treat. Romans walking the streets, Emperor Winston Churchill, and Charles Dickens talking about his Christmas Special were just some of my favorites. This episode also had so much more. Unfortunately, this first half of the episode was extremely confusing at times and might require watching it a few times to catch everything. Gathering information about The Silence was no easy task, and we got the very quick and dirty version of the events that got us to this paradox. For a species that was never touched on before, it seems like everyone actually knows about them, except The Doctor. I still can't believe what he did to that poor little Dalek. I don't think I ever saw him so cruel before. Just when we though that Amy and Rory's adventures were over, they get dragged back in again. Like we really thought they were gone forever. It wasn't until their rescue that things finally started making sense. Everything that was happening and all the past episodes seemed to fit together, even those weird eye patches were explained. I can't believe they called the giant pyramid Area 52. I'm still shaking my head at that part. What happened after the wedding rose the most questions of all. Now that Amy knew what happened after she witnessed his death, does that change the entire season, or did she know all along? We probably will never know that answer. Also, If he cheated death with a duplicate, could the future River have done the same in the library? Will she even return next season? If the entire universe thinks he died, how will The Doctor keep things quiet while he still heads to the big question? Hopefully we will get some answers to these next year. I didn't completely love the episode as there were far too many parts that lost me at the beginning, but it was still a really fun episode. The next episode is the Christmas Special, so it will almost be 3 months before our next fix. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the break after that one is going to be much, much longer.
